Did you know that modern swim instruction was invented at the YMCA? Maybe that's why so many people have learned to swim at the Y, and continue to come back to enjoy our outstanding facilities. At the YMCA, our Aquatics Programs are about swim instruction but also water safety and fun for everyone.
The aquatics programs of the YMCA are about more than just the techniques and skills; they are about building friendships, developing self-esteem and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime. Age RequirementsTo ensure the safety and well-being of all members, the following age requirements and rules have been established. Children 5 years and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian IN THE WATER and must stay within arms reach of the child to asisst and supervise them. Children ages 6 to 11 years old must pass a swim test to swim without adult supervision in the water. Parents/guardians must remain in the pool area to supervise their child who has passed the swim test. Children in this age group who cannot pass the swim test must be accompanied by the parent/guardian in the water. Children under 4 years of age MUST wear a swim diaper. This will reduce the possiblity of an accident in the pool, resulting in the a pool closure. Accidents in the pool require the YMCA to shut down the pool operation for up to 24 hours. We also ask that parents of non-diapered children talk to their child about the importance of taking frequent bathroom breaks while at the pool. POOL RULES No swimming or using the sauna or whirlpool without a lifeguard on duty. A full shower is required before entering the pool, whirlpool and sauna. Diving is only allowed from the edge of the pool deck at the "deep end area"." Back dives, back jumps and flips are prohibited. Diving blocks are off limits except during official YMCA programs. Horseplay, rough play is off limits in the pool or on the deck. Only walking is allowed on the pool deck. No running please. No food or gum is allowed in the aquatic center. Only water is allowed and must be in a closed plastic container. Persons with an open wound is not allowed in the pool. Personal inflatable devices are not permitted in the pool. Life jackets are available and are to be used in the shallow end of the pool. Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of everyone in the pool area and are to be respected and listened to. Individuals who fail to follow the pool rules will be asked to leave the area. Lifeguards may request a swim test to be completed before entering the pool. ATTIRE IN THE POOL Proper swim suits are required while in the aquatic center at all times. As a family-focused environment, dress that is offensive or overly revealing doesn to uphold the mission of the YMCA. T-shirts, jeans, athletic attire is not allowed in the pool or whirlpool.
