Alleghany Highlands YMCA Announces a $1 Million Capital Improvements Investment as it Celebrates 20
Years in Current Facility.
Low Moor, VA [April 27, 2026] — The Alleghany Highlands YMCA is excited to announce one million dollars in
capital improvements, planned over the next two years, as the YMCA celebrates 20 years in its current location
serving the community.
This significant investment will enhance the YMCA’s ability to serve individuals and families throughout the
Alleghany Highlands by addressing critical infrastructure needs and ensuring the facility remains accessible and
welcoming for years to come. Planned improvements include upgrades to core building systems and structural
components that support daily operations and long-term sustainability, including HVAC replacement, roof
replacement and an upgrade to Aquatics systems.
“The Alleghany Highlands YMCA has been a cornerstone of health, wellness, and community connection for two
decades in this specific building,” said Bobbie Wagner, CEO of the Alleghany Highlands YMCA. “This investment
allows us not only to celebrate that milestone, but to responsibly steward our facility so that we can continue
serving future generations.”
Outside investment for these projects from The Alleghany Foundation reflects a shared commitment to
strengthening community institutions that improve quality of life across the region.
“Healthy communities need access to high-quality and safe places to exercise. Our Alleghany Highlands YMCA
provides both – and so much more!” said Mary Donnan, Executive Director of The Alleghany Foundation.
“People go to the YMCA to exercise, to learn to swim, play basketball and other sports, and find community.”
“The Alleghany Foundation Board of Directors has seen this organization as an important priority in our
community for decades now, and we appreciate all the leadership of the YMCA’s volunteer board members and
their staff who are working so hard to make these needed-improvements happen,” said Kelly Dean Madsen,
President, The Alleghany Foundation Board of Directors.
Since opening its doors at its current location in 2006, the Alleghany Highlands YMCA has provided programs
and services focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. From swim lessons and
wellness programs to youth sports, summer camp and community outreach, the YMCA continues to adapt to
the evolving needs of the region. Since inception of the Alleghany Highlands YMCA in 1993, programs and
facilities have changed, but not their mission of service to the community.
Capital improvements are already underway and will continue for the remainder of 2026 and into 2027. The
Alleghany Foundation is investing $854,900 with the YMCA investing $150,000 towards capital projects. For
